PORTABLE FIELD MEDICAL LABORATORY

1. Carcinochrome Reaction (CCR): for the detection of peptides in urine known to be associated with the pre-cancerous state. The carcinochrome reaction to GUTSCHMIDT, among others, is an early detection test for the predilection of cancer. Cells, in a precancerous stage, will start spilling odd proteins into the blood which spill through the kidneys and appear in the urine. This is an important and vital feature. One bottle runs 150+ tests. replacement cost per ounce: $25
2. Putrechrome Reaction (PCR): for the detection of putrefactive ketones, putrescine, cadaverine, and acetoacetic acid. Also screens for PKU, pneumonia, typhoid fever, nephritis, alkaptonuria. One bottle runs 150+ tests.
replacement cost per ounce: $25
3. Indole/Skatole: Products of intestinal putrefaction formed in degradation of tryptophan (indole). Skatole formed in the intestine by the bacterial decomposition of L-tryptophan and found in fecal matter, to which it imparts its characteristic odor. One bottle runs 150+ tests.
replacement cost per ounce: $15
4. Indican: indicative, when in quantity, of protein putrefaction in the intestine (indicanuria). One bottle runs 150+ tests.
replacement cost per ounce: $15
5. Sulfafloc: For the detection of ethereal sulfates representing the highly toxic species like methylmercaptan and other thioethers due to liberation of bacteria found in the oral cavity and large bowel. One bottle runs 150+ tests.
replacement cost per ounce: $15
6. McWilliams test for Microalbuminuria: a highly sensitive test for the detection of slight amounts of albumin, a known harbinger for pre-renal failure, and nephron damage by diabetes mellitus and hypertension. One bottle runs 150+ tests.
replacement cost per ounce: $25
7. Calcium Test: useful for detection of calcium dumping syndrome. Urine when containing high amounts of sodium ions along with calcium indicate a negative calcium balance, especially in BAD (basic american diet) dietary, interstitial acidosis, and post-menopausal states. One bottle runs 50+ tests.
replacement cost per 3 ounces: $15
8. Sternheimer Stain: a unique and colorful stain for urinalysis. For identification of cells, casts, stones, gravel, and the famous "glitter cells" of acute urinary tract infection. One bottle runs 150 + tests.
replacement cost per ounce: $15
9. Wright-Geimsa Stain: the preferred stain for blood smears and detection of malaria. replacement cost per ounce: $5
10. Gram's stain: both microbiologic and useful as medicine. supplied dehydrated to make 1 liter.
11. Ehrlich's Diazo Reagent: The occurrence of the reaction is based on the fact that the substances created by the decomposition of the parenchyma of the body and/or of pus, are resorbed and are consequently eliminated through the kidneys. The reaction is of value for diagnosis and prognosis specifically in four illnesses: typhoid fever, pulmonary tuberculosis, puerperal affections; and hidden suppuration, e.g. abscess of the liver.
12. Methylene Blue: A multipurpose dye for bacteria, as a reaction of the urine of typhoid patients yields different colors at different stages of disease; as a peripheral blood smear with methylene blue stain shows Heinz body inclusions in red blood cells; as a test assists in the differential diagnosis of diarrheal disease [presence of yeast, cocci in clusters or leukocytes]; a method is highly specific to sulphide, and suitable for testing fresh and seawater.
13. Lugol's solution: A multipurpose solution both diagnostic and therapeutic; disinfection of drinking water. Lugol's iodine solution is applied to the cervix under direct vision [Schiller's test]. Normal cervical mucosa contains glycogen and stains brown, whereas abnormal areas, such as early cervical cancer, do not take up the stain. The abnormal areas can then be biopsied and examined histologically.
14. Papanicolaou Stains: Haematoxylin, Orange G, Eosin azure: Papanicolaou stain (also Papanicolaou's stain and Pap stain) is a multichromatic staining histological technique developed by George Papanikolaou, the father of cytopathology. Pap staining is used to differentiate cells in smear preparations of various bodily secretions; the specimens can be gynecological smears (Pap smears), sputum, brushings, washings, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, abdominal fluid, pleural fluid, synovial fluid, seminal fluid, fine needle aspiration material, tumor touch samples, or other materials containing cells. Pap staining is a very reliable technique. As such, it is used for cervical cancer screening in gynecology. The entire procedure is known as Pap smear.
15. Sodium citrate (ESR test). The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is a quick, simple and inexpensive laboratory test that has been used routinely for over 80 years (Westergren 1924, Bedell & Bush 1985) to measure the height of the layer of red blood cells that settle in a tube of anticoagulated blood in a specific unit of time, most commonly an hour. The usefulness of ERS in various diseases has been widely studied, and the highest ESR levels have been found in association with infections, collagen vascular diseases and metastatic malignancies.
16. Crystal (gentian) violet. The active ingredient in Gram's stain, used to classify bacteria. Gentian violet is also an anti-fungal agent. As a topical medication, gentian violet kills fungal cells that contribute to infections in your mouth and on your skin, such as oral thrush. Gentian violet (1% solution in water) is still an excellent treatment for Candida Albicans, though we don’t suggest mothers use it alone for Candida Albicans (thrush, yeast) because it tends to dry out the nipple and areola.
17. Boric acid. Boric acid is a good and commonly used preservative for urine specimens intended for routine urinalysis testing and/or urine culture.
